The Akthiran Empire

According to historians, Akthira was once a powerful empire with dominion over most, if not all, of the known world. In this time of legend, great monarchs ruled from opulent palaces and all other peoples paid obeisance to their enlightened if distant rulers. Despite the relative prosperity of the era, discontent and even rebellion began to take root. Insurrection began in earnest in the dry wastes of Pells Jut and spread outward like a cancer. Allied with secretive and dangerous magic cults, the insurrectionists grew in number and threatened their fellow citizens of the empire with war and its attendant disharmonies. Desperate to save the empire, the infamous Emperor Kotte foolishly attempted to cut off the cultists’ magical power by enlisting the help of powerful Half-Orc shamans. The shamans engaged in a dangerous and forbidden ritual deep beneath the slopes of Mount Erbertha. Some say the shamans sacrificed scores of individuals to power their ritual, but the devastation it caused make it impossible to be know for sure.

At least, that’s what the legends say. Literary types scoff at the cliches about a lost utopia, but most agree on those basic facts. All you know for sure is that if lands outside Akthira ever existed, they are long gone now. Today, Akthira is the name of your kingdom and the collective name of the islands where it is located. In the aftermath of the Disruption caused by the shamanic ritual, most of Akthira’s remaining citizens fled to the Scel Mountains in the island’s center. There, the empire’s civilization was rebuilt in fits and starts over the course of millennia.
